NORTEK COMPLETES SALE OF TWO SUBSIDIARIES
PROVIDENCE, RI, January 5, 1999--Nortek, Inc. (NYSE:NTK) today reported that it has completed the sale of the businesses of two wholly owned subsidiaries, M&S Systems LP of Dallas, Texas, and Moore-O-Matic, Inc. of Carlsbad, California, to The Chamberlain Group, Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
For the year ended December 31, 1997, the two companies had combined sales of $40.4 million. M&S Systems sells intercoms, built-in music and audio systems, central vacuum systems and related products. Moore-O-Matic sells automatic garage door openers, gate operators and electronic transmitters.
The sale of M&S is pursuant to a consent agreement entered into by Nortek and the Federal Trade Commission as part of the FTCs approval of Norteks acquisition of NuTone Inc., in July of 1998.
Richard L. Bready, Chairman and CEO of Nortek, stated, "By packaging M&S with Moore-O-Matic, we were able to attract a strategic buyer for these businesses as well as satisfy the divestiture requirement of the FTC. We are very pleased with the positive resolution of this matter."
