PROVIDENCE, RI, August 3, 1998--Nortek, Inc.(NYSE:NTK) announced today that its Ply Gem Industries, Inc. subsidiary has sold the assets of its Ply*Gem Manufacturing division to PGM Products, LLC.

Based in Gloucester City, New Jersey, Ply*Gem Manufacturing is a leading distributor of interior decorating products including imported Italian ceramic tile, wood flooring and shelving. Its products are sold direct to national homes center chains, building material retailers and wholesalers and lumber yards. Ply*Gem Manufacturing had net sales in excess of $45.0 million for 1997.

Richard L. Bready, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated that "the sale of Ply*Gem Manufacturing is part of our continuing rationalization of the Ply Gem Industries, Inc. operations and is in keeping with our strategy of disposing of businesses that do not fit Nortek's long-term strategic objectives."

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
